Honeywell has developed the ScanPal2 as a mobile data terminal for daily applications in various fields, such as stocktaking, listing and tracking of work processes or item management in warehouses. It is equipped with a keyboard, a graphical display and a CCD bar code scanner and is extremely robust, yet easy to use. Through individual programming, it can be easily adjusted to various customer requirements.
Mobile data collection device for bar codes
Integrated bar code laser scanner with 5-95 cm scanning range
Graphical display with backlight, 128x64 pixels
Programme generator or C for programming
21 rubber keys, partly programmable
The integrated CCD scanner reads all commercial bar codes within a range of 3-16 cm. As a result, it is ergonomic and convenient to use the ScanPal2. Users are not required to hold the scanner directly onto the label. Additional data can be added by using a keyboard with 21 rubber keys, some of which can be programmed freely.
In order to make the device always ready to use, the ScanPal2 can use the provided rechargeable battery or alternatively two conventional 1.5 V batteries AAA, not included. With fully charged batteries, this data collection device can operate about a hundred hours, which equates to normal operation for several weeks without changing batteries.
With the help of Honeywells programming interface application generator, you can create simple, mobile scan programs or even small applications. This means for instance it takes only minutes to edit stocktaking applications for acquiring item numbers, amounts, and colour codes with individual screen dialogues for the user. Complex and customer specific applications can be programmed with a C- or Basic-Compiler. Honeywell provides all required libraries free of charge, while the C compiler can to be purchased from Honeywell. Its internal memory of 1 MB can hold tens of thousands of scanned data sets, which makes it possible to use even very complex applications where large amounts of data are kept for comparisons in the device.
To read out the memory or charge the rechargeable battery, a charging cradle is included with the ScanPal2. Connect it over a serial interface to a host that can receive and process the data. For this process, Honeywell provides another software application. Optionally, read-outs can be made through an integrated IrDA interface.
The ScanPal2 Laser includes all advantages of the CCD model. However, instead of a CCD scanner it has an integrated laser scanner.
